From Pista Dankó to Kusturica

Concert night

The "pop" musicians of 19th century were mostly Gypsies. These musicians had the extraordinary talent and skill to play different kind of music, thereby entertaining urban and rural audiences alike.

This music night is an imaginary journey to a 19th century café, where urban and rural worlds meet. The central point of such places was the musician, whose music created the unique atmosphere and character of the café. The most famous Hungarian tunes of the 19th and 20th centuries were born in such cafés or at least owe their existence to them is some way. This night features the works of the most famous Gipsy musicians, performed by their contemporary followers: the singer Ágnes Herczku, the musicians Ferenc Radics and István Pál, together with the world-famous Orchestra of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble.
