Béla Bartók is the most important figure of the Hungarian music literature. Without his folk music collections, the work done by the generations that followed him to preserve the values of Hungarian culture would be unimaginable: the melodies he recorded still define traditional folk art and classical music, but they also continously inspire jazz and world music composers and performers.
Bartók was interested not only in Hungarian music, but was also keen on the music of the surrounding people and of more distant lands (e.g. North Africa, Turkey). The Arabic collection from North Africa will be featured prominently in the production that will be part of the gala performance of the Hungarian Day at the Dubai World Expo in March 2022. A Pure Spring presents some of the characteristic pieces of Bartók's oeuvre with the collaboration of Guessous Mesi, the Ballet of Győr and the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, through the connection between Arabic and Hungarian music, with a special focus on the relationship between music and dance.
