Though it is almost forgotten in the modern world of shopping centers, fairs used to be the heart of cities and towns; Kolozsvár was not an exception. At this fair, you could buy fresh vegetables from the Hóstát farmer, butter and milk from Kalotaszeg ladies, livestock from Szék or Mezőség keepers; merchants would spend their money at the end of a good day, future spouses would be introduced, and the buyers could share, or just listen to, gossip and the latest news.
The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble recreates the magical atmosphere of this imaginary fair on stage - aiming to take a trip down memory lane, rather than copy the images from the past - not in a drama setting, but through using the lyrical language of folk dance and folk music.
The program commemorates the tenth annual Hungarian Cultural Days of Kolozsvár.
