“The Second Life of the Tree" - Exhibition by Tibor Erdélyi

Exhibition of Tibor Erdélyi, Kossuth Prize-winning dancer-choreographer, folk wood sculptor, woodcarver, in the Kallós Zoltán Exhibition Hall of the Hungarian Heritage House.
Tibor Erdélyi was a solo dancer of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, starred in memorable pieces; his choreographic career is also prominent in our upcoming exhibition, and we would like to present Tibor Erdélyi's rich oeuvre as a woodcarver to our guests in more depth.
He has been carving since childhood, and according to art historian Pál Bánszky, he "follows an individual path as an adult, though his art is still rooted in tradition. In his sculptures he draws inspiration from dance, but he does not relate to the stylized treatment dictated by the folk art approach, but to the more expressive world of modern art."
As a man working with wood, he not only takes the idea from his imagination, but he is also inspired by wood itself, emotionally radiates it, so to speak, which, if the creator is able to use it, multiplies the artistic value of the work.
As we approach his 90th birthday, we pay tribute to the Eternal Member of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, who also created something lasting through his wood sculptures.

Exhibition opening: 18 March 2022 (Friday) at 17:00, Kallós Zoltán Exhibition Hall

The exhibition will be opened by Mihály Hoppál, Széchenyi Prize-winning ethnologist, folklorist

In collaboration with the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble
