Every Friday afternoon the Hungarian Heritage House opens its gates for children and their parents who would like to play, to dance, to sing, to do handicrafts and wish to get acquainted with the Hungarian folk traditions. Every week you can dance and enjoy the music of different instruments (bagpipe, hurdy-gurdy, flute, violin, viola, double bass, kobza, hit gardon).

Dance House for the Little Ones takes place every Friday from 17:00 till 18:30 in the Community Hall of the Hungarian Heritage House.

Entrance fee: 500 HUF (for everybody over 2 years)

Workshop for children aged 7-14

This workshop is an interactive introduction to Hungarian folk tradition. It is an imaginary journey all through the Carpathian Basin. The travel mates are the dancers of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, the folk singer and storyteller Éva Fábián and folk handicrafts instructors.

This day is a great chance for children to get to know the traditional heritage of the Carpathian Basin; to sing, dance and play the same way as most Hungarian children of bygone times used to do.

Children have always been active participants of traditional rural occasions in the Carpathian Basin. They had their own little world within adult culture: they had special children's dance occasions, children's holiday traditions and children's tasks at community events. The Hungarian Heritage House wishes to carry in this tradition by launching its "Kids and Youth Programs" series.

The Handicraft Section of the Applied Folk Art Department wishes to provide a chance for getting acquainted with a wide range of traditional Hungarian folk handicrafts. There are various courses available for on both beginner and advanced levels, in traditional male and female crafts alike. Most courses are accredited by the Hungarian Ministry of Education.

This accredited course aims to provide the knowledge necessary for the authentic presentation of Hungarian folk narratives. The course material embraces the ethnographic, literary and dramatic knowledge underlying genuine folk storytelling.
